February 13, 2001 16:20: With England, the Republic of Ireland and Jamaica all vying for his international services, Clinton Morrison has the footballing world at his feet.

And Morrison showed his undoubted ability again last Saturday to put the boot into Burnley.

Confidence has never been the 21-year-olds problem.

Last year he had a wager with the then Eagles boss, Steve Coppell, that he would reach the magic 20-goal mark for the season.

A shoulder injury scuppered his chances then, but Saturdays strike has left him just two short of reaching that target this time around.

Morrisons stoppage time winner at Turf Moon was just reward for a plucky Palace performance.

The home side held the lead given to them by Paul Cook until Morrisons partner in time Mikael Forssell grabbed a 73rd minute equaliser.

But with Burnleys goalkeeper Nik Michopoulos a clear man of the match, the pattern of the game was there for all to see. The Clarets stopper had already fielded two efforts from Forssell and one from Simon Rodger before Cook gave his side a 13th minute lead.

Michopoulos went on to deny Forssell with a further quartet of saves, forming an unmovable object to meet Palaces irresistible force.

Burnley almost stretched their advantage when Steve Davis pot-shot smacked Palaces crossbar.

But minutes later Forssells persistence paid off as he made it seventh time lucky for Palace. Substitute winger Julian Gray launched a long throw into the box, which the Finn gleefully bundled home past a static Clarets defence.

Gray also had a hand in the Eagles winner. The former Arsenal man had his long range effort parried by Michopoulos and Morrison was there to head home the rebound.

The result hoisted Palace into 14th in Division One, nine points above the relegation zone and 17 points adrift of a play-off spot.

But the Eagles will have another opportunity to close the gap when the Canaries wing their way to Selhurst Park this Saturday. The omens are good for Palace who havent lost to Norwich City since being relegated from the Premiership in 1998.

And arguably their best performance during their current spell in Division One came in their first year when the Canaries were roasted 5-1 at Selhurst Park.

Nicky Rizzo, Matt Svensson, Matt Jansen and the bald Eagle himself, Ambo Lombardo, all got in on the goal scoring act that day.

And with Norwich conceding no fewer than 27 goals on their travels this season, Delia Smiths Canaries might be on the menu, for another Palace goal-feast.

Dulwich Hamlets match with Maidenhead was postponed on Saturday.

They are at home to Carshalton this weekend.
