May 24, 2001 9:56: PROGRESS has always been printed on every Blackpool FC crest, but up until now it hasn't brought much meaning. Years of steady decline of both the football club and its surroundings have meant that progress was the last word that described the club's situation.
That was until now.
An excellent run near the end of this campaign brings the Seasiders to Cardiff, where Leyton Orient are all that stands between the Blackpool Tangerines and a place in Division Two next season.
On the team news front, the only big disappointment from the Blackpool camp is the exclusion by the FA of centre back Danny Shittu. Despite valiant efforts from the club, the FA has told Shittu that he must go back to Charlton as his loan spell at Bloomfield Road has met the maximum number of days allowed.
However good news comes from fellow defender Brian Reid who is expected to be fit and ready after recovering from an injury in Wednesday's play-off semi-final victory over Hartlepool.
Also expected to be back is player of the season Paul Simpson after missing Wednesday's win with a groin
strain.
Whatever the outcome, it is expected to be a cracking game and one that has the potential to catapult the Seasiders back to their former glory.
