A Battersea pub has promised to rival the Regent Street Christmas light ceremony with its own festive light and firework extravaganza featuring Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson.

The rocker, whose band is known for classics such as Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter, will flick the switch on the Settle Inns Christmas lights tonight (Thursday) at 7.30pm.

A team of professional pyro-technicians has spent the past week using abseiling equipment to rig up thousands of pounds of fireworks on the pub, in Battersea Bridge Road, to ensure the ceremony goes with a bang.

There will also be a collection for charity Physically Handicapped Able Bodied (PHAB).

Pub owner Paul McKinley said: "It's most definitely silly season in SW11. Weve had the lighting guys abseiling off the pubs roof like reindeer for a couple of days now. One of them is trying to run a line over to Battersea Power Station to get a feed."

The Settle Inn is in 186 Battersea Bridge Road.
