BUSINESS WORKSHOP: Thinking of starting up a business? Why not take part in the free Business Awareness Workshop on December 14? Run by the Enterprise Agency of North Kent, the half-day event at the Gravesham Business Point, in King Street, Gravesend, covers a wide range of useful subjects. Call 01474 327118 for more information.

HOLIDAY IMPLICATIONS: Bexley Council is urging parents not to take their children on holiday during term time. The council says children who miss school may never catch up on their work, which can affect exam results. The borough has a guide for parents on holidays and extended overseas trips. For more information, call the education welfare service on 020 8303 7777 ext 4424.

EBBSFLEET CONTRACTS: Two multi-million-pound contracts have been awarded to carry out work for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link at Ebbsfleet station. Fujitec will design and install lifts at the international station and Otis will install and maintain passenger escalators. Both contracts will be complete when services begin in 2007.

DISABLED ACTIVITIES: Gravesham and Dartford PHAB, a social group for disabled people and their friends and family, meets regularly in Northfleet. The group organises day trips, social events and sporting activities. For more information about future social occasions, meetings and how to sign up, call 01474 568655.
