Stand aside for the next big star as Bromley's Chris Guzzard (above) is in the final 50 on TV's Pop Idol.

Millions of viewers have seen 10,000 hopefuls whittled down on ITV and 22-year-old Chris from Mead Way is one of the select few.

For the next five weeks, 10 contestants will perform and viewers select which two should go through to the final. We will see Chris on our TV sets on November 10.

"It's really exciting but I'll be glad when I find out how well I have done," he told the News Shopper.

Chris attended Sylvie Young's Stage School, central London, when he was 14 and he was nearly part of pop-band Steps but was pipped at the post by Lee Latchford-Evans."It was meant to happen, though. Now I get a chance to be a pop idol," Chris joked.

A care-worker at The Priory Hosptial, Hayes Grove, Chris was selected by the judges after his performance of Robbie Williams' Rock DJ, and thinks he has a good chance of going further. "I have got the personality and what it takes," he said. "I have worked hard for this."
