CAROL singers gathered in Gravesend to support the National Children's Homes (NCH) charity.

More than 100 people from across North Kent flocked to the NCH Christmas Celebration Concert, in Milton Road Methodist Church.

And £800 was raised for the Gravesham branch which helps vulnerable young mums and children in the borough.

Among the musicians were the Gravesend Salvation Army Band, the East Kent Girls' Choir and Kent flautist Rebecca Woolley.

NCH south east area fundraiser Roger Francis said the annual concert was a "great success".

He said: "Everybody who came along had an excellent time and the money raised will go towards the Harmony Project which helps vulnerable young mums and their children in Gravesham.

"The women are either abused, homeless or neglected and we help around 30 mums at any one time.

"We normally look after the mum during her pregnancy and for the first five years of the baby's life."
