A West Croydon driving instructor, Basil Jones, who devoted his time teaching disabled people how to drive was presented with an MBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Basil, 62, works for driving school BSM in Reigate, and was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to drivers with disabilities.
He was presented with the award on November 20.
"I'd been looking forward to the investiture and it certainly lived up to expectations. It was a truly wonderful day for me and my family," said Basil who lives in West Croydon.
A BSM instructor since 1996, Basil specialises in Mobility, a dedicated driver training programme which helps people with a wide range of mobility difficulties develop their skills at the wheel.
Bob, a former manager of the BSM centre in Reigate, proposed him for the award. The nomination was supported by three of Basil's disabled students, Gary Howe, Sara Quirk and Katja Turner.
"Receiving my MBE from the Queen is a memory I shall treasure," said Basil.
