IN just a few days time, cows will start to talk, geese will dance and men will wear frocks and curly wigs.

And, despite cries of "Oh no they won't", it is definitely a case of "Oh yes they will" as the pantomime season gets fully under way at Lloyd Park Theatre.

The classic panto The Elves and the Shoemaker, will be performed at the Forest Road theatrein Walthamstow from December 15 to 19.

Actors aged six and upwards are taking part in the production, which has been specially adapted by Highams Park writer Elaine Elliott.

The youngsters from Waltham Forest Youth Theatre will be joined by members of the professional Global Theatre Company.

Pantomime has its roots in Renaissance Italy, when stock characters such as Harlequin, Columbine and Punchinello performed improvised slapstick known as Commedia dell'arte.

During Victorian times, it became usual to see the dame played by a male actor and the principal boy played by a young woman.

The Elves and the Shoemaker has all the traditional ingredients for a super show, including a delightful dame, nasty villains to hiss and boo at, plus enough "ooo's", "aah's" and "look behind yous" to keep the audience roaring with laughter throughout.

The show, produced by Michael Michael, is an ideal way for children and all the family to get into the swing of Christmas.

Tickets cost £5.

Performances will take place from 2.30pm and 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, and from 2.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
