RADIO DJ and Who Wants to be a Millionaire host Chris Tarrant was unusually quiet when he visited a special school in Bromley.
The game show host was carrying out a 24-hour sponsored silence for homeless charity Shelter when he visited Rectory Paddock School in Main Road, St Paul's Cray, to officiate at the opening of its new £1m wing.
Pupils at the school had to teach Chris Tarrant some sign language so he could communicate with them.
They played a game of Who Wants to be a Millionaire where he was the contestant who used signs to answer questions.
The new wing, which has taken more than two years to build, has three new class rooms, a hall, a sensory room and a trampoline area.
The school for children with severe learning difficulties is celebrating its 25th year. It has 83 pupils aged between four and 19.
Headteacher Dr Viv Hinchcliffe said: "The day worked out well. Some pupils have to use signs to communicate so it was nice for them.The extension will help us look after more children and do a better job."
