An intrepid teenager who pulled her friend from a swamp during an expedition to the Lake District has been honoured with a gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Cerys Barrow, 19, from
Morden, achieved her award through the Girls Brigade
after helping at an indoor camp for people with special needs.
The award scheme aims to give young people the opportunity to tackle community, recreation and conservation issues.
The Duke of Edinburgh himself was on hand to congratulate all those commended during a presentation
ceremony at St James Palace.
