Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Clubs youngsters made a successful debut at the Sports Hall Indoor Athletics at Guildfords Spectrum Centre when they competed in the second of this seasons meetings organised by the Surrey County Athletic Association.

Sports Hall athletics consists mainly of obstacle races and relays, and the team of Emily Martin, sisters Amadine and Flo King, and nine-year-old Lara Bliscow took the U13 event, winning the four lap relay. Emily also won the high jump.

Maureen Njuguna and Jade Lally were in action in the girls U15 events, while Budi Mabeling competed in the boys U15 competition.

A Hercules Wimbledon spokesman said: Bearing in mind we have never done Sports Hall athletics as a club before it was an encouraging start. It was also a very enjoyable experience for all the athletes, their parents and the officials. We are now looking forward to the final match at Guildford in February.

Another Hercules Wimbledon youngster in top form was Michael OHalloran who competed for his school in the English Schools cross country cup final at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire.

Michael was the second scoring member of the team from Wilsons School, Sutton, who finished fifth out of the 24 competing teams. He was 18th out of 138 runners from all over the country, recording a time of 11 mins 56 secs just 39 seconds behind the race winner.
