A FAMILY is grief-stricken after losing their mother in a suspected arson attack.

Harbans Johal of Corporation Avenue, Hounslow died on Wedneday, November 26, five days after the blaze at her home, which police believe was lit deliberately.

Firefighters arrived at the scene just minutes after the blaze was reported by a neighbour at 1.59am on November 21. They fought through the flames to rescue the 52-year-old from her rear upstairs bedroom, whilst her 25-year-old son Gurnham escaped by jumping out of his blazing upstairs bedroom, breaking his ankle in the process.

Mrs Johal was rushed to Isleworth's West Middlesex Hospital, before being transferred to Mount Vernon, where she remained in a critical condition until her death.

Didar Singh Bains, a 60-year-old landlord of Ash Grove, Heston, has been charged with conspiracy to commit criminal damage with intent to endanger life.
