Purley Walcountians 8 bt Old Cranleighans 1
Purley Walcountians' promising South League Premier Division season continued on Saturday when they visited bottom placed Old Cranleighans and again produced an unstoppable performance.
Early exchanges saw both sides giving away easy possession and failing to string more than three passes together.
The OCs keeper was only forced to produce a handful of saves and equally the Purley goal was only threatened by two or three penalty corners.
As half-time drew nearer, good attacking work down the left by Nick Hayes and Stephen Hardy resulted in a cross that found Lachlan Fincher unmarked to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Purley walked straight into a half-time barrage from coach Keith Stephen who knew the performance had to improve.
The stunned Purley players then went out and rattled up a further seven goals in the next 35 minutes.
A further goal from Lachlan Fincher, two from Mark Justice and one each from Graham Butler, Julian Mills, Danny Byfield and Damian Hallett secured the points.
With one game remaining before the Christmas break, Purley are now clear in second place and only one point behind leaders City of Portsmouth.
This Saturday Purley entertain Wimbledon at home at 1pm.
