Arguments over the omission of nearly 250 war dead from the Edgware war memorial have taken a tentative step closer to being resolved.
A meeting of Harrow Council officers and the Barnet War Memorials Initiative (BWMI) has been arranged for December 18.
A spokesman for Harrow Council, which is responsible for the High Street memorial, said: "The aim is to discuss the issue and try to see what we can do to resolve it."
The BWMI is outraged that the names of Burnt Oak and Edgware servicemen from the Second World War are missing from the memorial. Harrow Council agendas dating back to 1995 highlighted the issue and proposed solutions which have not been put into practice.
Lieutenant Colonel Brian Mann, BWMI chairman, welcomed the meeting as a move in the right direction. "It is a positive step and will clear the matter up one way or the other. We are looking to clear up all the misunderstandings that there have obviously been in the past and see what the way forward is."
The meeting, which is not open to the public, will be at Harrow Civic Centre.
