Rail passengers overwhelmingly support a full Sunday Thames rail service at West Ealing Station, according to a recent poll conducted by Ealing Green Party.

More than 100 passengers were asked whether they want the train station currently closed on a Sunday reopened, and 90 per cent were in favour.

Green Party campaigner, Rachel Sanger, said: "A recent statement from Thames Trains said that there is no demand for a Sunday service, but that is nonsense."

She continued: "Sunday is almost as busy a day as Saturday nowadays. Thames Trains should do a proper demand assessment themselves, then they would see that people want this service.

"Lots of passengers said how strongly they feel on this issue and made suggestions for other improvements such as more frequent and later running trains, toilets and a proper waiting room."

A spokesman for Thames Trains said: "There is a fair level of commuter custom at West Ealing station but not enough to serve them with new trains. Thames Trains does not consider there are sufficient passengers to arrange for routes to include stopping there on a Sunday, thus making those services slower and less attractive to regular passengers."
