DIETICIANS from University Hospital Lewisham will soon be taking people on shopping tours to show them what to eat.

The hospital's Shopping for Health project is open to anyone who wants to find out about eating for better health.

This includes those with a family history of heart disease, people diagnosed with diabetes or families who are unsure about making cost-effective healthy food choices.

Several supermarkets have agreed to take part in the project, including the Co-op, in Downham, Somerfield, in Rushey Green, the Savacentre, in Sydenham and Tesco, in Catford. Residents will be shown how to choose healthy low-cost food, understand labelling and sample food.

Hospital dietician Aldreana Somerville said: "With the publicity, more residents and supermarkets might get involved in this programme for improving people's health."

The tours are taking place twice a month. If you would like to go on one, call Maureen Smith on 020 8333 3314 or write to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, University Hospital Lewisham, Lewisham High Street, London SE13 61H.
