A Wallington drug addict was cleared by an Old Bailey jury on Monday (December 3) of killing his girlfriend with a lethal injection of heroin.

Alexander Munroe, 43, claimed he was unconscious when Julie Connor overdosed on the deadly drug.

The pair had been on a

drinking binge before they took a fix of the drug at their Surrey home in June last year.

Munroe provided the "straw that broke the camel's back" when he gave the lethal drug to Ms Connor, the prosecution claimed. He was found unconscious by paramedics with his arms around his lover in the bathroom of their flat in Branker Close on Roundshaw Estate.

Miss Connor, also 43, died after the combination of alcohol, heroin, and poor health "overloaded her system".

Munroe told the court he could not remember giving Miss Connor the heroin that killed her.

After a ten day trial a jury took under two hours to acquit Munroe of killing his partner.
