THUGS who are haunting Millwall's ground face a Christmas behind bars, according to Lewisham police.

Deputy borough commander Jeff Harris has thanked News Shopper readers for their help in identifying many of their suspects, but is appealing once again for your help in rounding up the remaining offenders.

He said: "Anyone who gets involved in football violence can expect to be identified, charged and possibly sent to jail.

"Violence is not a game, and spending Christmas behind bars is no fun."

His warning comes after Simon Davies, aged 18, from Woolstone Road, Forest Hill, was given an 18-week sentence for violent disorder, after police raided his home, following News Shopper readers' tip-offs.

Six police vans visited homes across south London in their bid to catch the yobs, aged between 14 and 20, who were captured on CCTV film throwing bricks, fireworks and concrete blocks at police and residents around Millwall's Zampa Road ground.

Supt Harris added: "We'd all like to thank those people who saw the pictures in the News Shopper and called us. It's in the interests of the community as a whole that these people are brought to book before 2002."
