A play, written to encourage children to behave better on journeys to and from school, is to tour around different schools in Watford and Three Rivers this month.

Driving Ms Daisy is a new production by the Box Clever Theatre Company.

Commissioned by Hertfordshire County Council the play aims to address problems with bad behaviour on school journeys while also trying to encourage children to travel school safely and respect other passengers.

County Councillor Iris Tarry, executive member for Environment, said: "The Council and bus operators are only too aware of the problems that poor behaviour can cause and recognise that something needs to be done about it.

"Previous productions with Box Clever have confirmed that productions such as this can be an extremely effective way of getting a message across to young people.

"Each day we take more than 14,000 pupils to and from school and need to make sure that their journeys are trouble free."

The initiative is one of a range measures being taken by the county council to encourage children to make a greater use of buses for their trip to school including the introduction of 50 CCTV cameras on buses to help improve security.

"Driving Ms Daisy" visited Francis Combe School in Garston yesterday (Thursday) and is scheduled to visit St Joan of Arc RC in Rickmansworth and St Clement Danes School in Chorleywood today (Friday) and Westfield Community School in Watford on Monday.
