A former alderman of Wandsworth returned a small piece of history to the borough recently when he donated his Jubilee medal to the mayor.
Sam Dougherty, who held the post from 1974 to 1978, was originally given the decoration by the Queen at a Silver Jubilee celebration at Buckingham Palace to recognise his work for the community.
Mr Dougherty, a former mayor himself, gave his medal to the current mayor, Councillor Leslie McDonnell, during a ceremony at Wandsworth Museum, where it will now take pride of place in a special Jubilee display.
The exhibition runs until the end of September at 11 Garratt Lane. Call 020 8871 7074.
