STAFF and patients said farewell to Bromley Hospital with just weeks to go before its closure.

Friends and colleagues held a party, as the date for transferring to Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough approaches.

The hospital, which first opened in 1869 as six beds in cottages in Cromwell Road, now has more than 200 beds and 900 staff.

It was incorporated into the NHS in 1948 and, along with Beckenham, Orpington and Farnborough hospitals, became a trust 1993.

The original foundation stone will be transferred to the new hospital when Bromley closes on March 31.

The Bishop of Tonbridge, the Rt Rev Brian Castle, will preside at a service for the hospital at St Mark's Church, Hayes Road, on Sunday, March 9.
