We read in your issue of April 17 that Hendon MP Andrew Dismore will be boycotting the topping-out ceremony at the newly-built Edgware Community Hospital.
We of the New Edgware Hospital Campaign are proud to feel that our efforts have been a major factor in providing this ground-breaking urban community hospital. We owe much of this success to the work and support of our ever-present MP.
The project reference group, which is our interface with management, was unanimous in its opposition to the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Joan Scannell, performing the topping-out ceremony, for the very reason that it would be perceived as political.
This decision was overrruled by senior officers of the Primary Care Trust. It is a great pity that the good news of a wonderful new health facility for the local population should be drowned out in this way.
