GREENWICH is one of just six London boroughs to hit its target for police numbers for the year end, according to the Met.

In fact, it surpassed its target of 576 officers and reached 598 officers by the end of the year an excess of 22 officers.

Lewisham, in contrast, has failed to hit its target officer strength of 594 by the end of the financial year.

At the end of March, the borough only had 568 officers a shortfall of 26.

Richard Barnes, London Assembly Conservatives' crime spokesman, said: "Despite paying more and more tax to supposedly fund the Met, people living in Lewisham do not receive their due allocation of police officers."

He added: "The targets seem to be futile when some boroughs exceed their target and others languish behind."
