CHILDREN from the Orchard Estate in Woodford Green honed their skills at an inter-estate coaching workshop attended by paralympian Gold Medallist Lloyd Upsell.

The workshop was the culmination of a year-and-a-half long scheme ahead of the opening of the estate's new football pitch.

Sports development officer Dan Godfrey put 50 children from the estate and from the Tudor Crescent Estate in Hainault through their paces.

Mr Upsell, who won gold medals in both the 100 and 200 meters at the Sydney Paralympics in 2000, showed off his medals and took time to speak with the children.

OJ Agunyco from the Orchard Estate, which borders Broadmead Road, Woodford Green, won a Dagenham and Redbridge FC shirt in the raffle and tickets for Dagenham games were also up for grabs.

The project brings both housing estates together in a scheme funded by the Redbridge Safer Community Partnership.

The coaching workshop was part of a week of activities sponsored by Sport England through their Sporting Champions scheme.
