Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a minicab driver was stabbed and robbed in broad daylight in Brixton.

At just after 12.30pm last Wednesday, April 23, two black men aged about 25 entered Lomond Cars, on Camberwell Road and asked for a minicab to take them to Angell Town Estate in Brixton.

A driver took the men on a ten-minute journey to Overton Road in a white Toyota Carina estate car, which he parked between Marston House and Ireton House in order to let the men out.

The man in the front passenger seat then produced a knife and demanded money. When the driver attempted to leave the car, he was pulled back and stabbed three times, once to his left upper arm, and twice to his back, of which one of the wounds punctured his lung.

During the struggle, the passenger in the back-seat threatened the driver with what appeared to be a handgun.

He took a mobile phone worth £200 from the driver, as well as £45 in cash from his shirt pocket and a gold bracelet.

The robbers then made off on foot into the estate, heading towards Loughborough Road. The 36-year-old driver, who is also black, called an ambulance, which took him to King's College Hospital for treatment keeping him in overnight.

Following surgery, he was discharged on Friday.

PC Janet Wheeler of Brixton Robbery Squad said: "We are appealing for witnesses to the assault and robbery."

Anyone with information should call the Brixton robbery squad on 020-8649 3456 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
