GREENER, more leafy streets will soon be a reality despite residents being told by the council it will not plant any more trees.

Petts Wood and District Residents' Association has planted five trees in the area and there are plans for more in the autumn.

Rowan trees have been planted in St George's Road and Franks Wood Avenue, a crab apple tree is now in Shepperton Road and an oak has been planted in Petts Wood Road.

Peter Varley, chairman, of the association, which spent £375 on the trees, said: "Bromley Council has cancelled the budget for the replacement of street trees."

Mr Varley is looking for other suggestions as to where to plant other trees, preferably on sites where they stood before. Call 01689 876750.
