A SCAFFOLDING company employing 80 people will be demolished to make way for a housing development.

Admiral Scaffolding, in Burnt Ash Road, Lee, refused to move due to having no alternative local site and will now make way for homes built by Lypar (Landstone) Ltd.

Lypar will be building 24 houses with garages and 10 two and three-bedroom flats after getting approval from Lewisham planning committee on April 10.

A spokesman for Lypar said: "Naturally Glenmere Plc is delighted to have been granted planning permission for Lee Station Yard. We will continue to strive to work with the local community and its representatives as development at the site takes place."

Site clearance work is due to commence in August leading to construction beginning in mid September. Glenmere Plc aims to have the first unit on the market in May 2004.

Admiral and its 80 employees will be moving to a new site in Wimbledon.

The block of flats is to provide 30 per cent affordable residential units managed by a housing association.

The private element of the scheme will be sold at market prices.
