This is a busy weekend for Hercules Wimbledon with the start of the Southern Men's and National Young Athletics Leagues, plus the club's Barry Jones 10km road race.

Outstanding youngster Emily Martin will head a joint boys' and girls' team in the National Youth Athletes League match at Kingsmeadow Stadium, Kingston, on Sunday.

Emily warned up for the match in fine style by winning the U15 150 metres in a personal best 19.6 seconds and the long jump with 5.26 metres at an opening meeting at Tonbridge last weekend.

Manager Steve Hadley and captain Royden John are looking forward to this summer's Southern Men's League campaign with confidence.

Hercules, who recently gave best-ever performances at the recent Kinnaird and Sward Trophy meetings, start their season at Hemel Hempstead on Sunday.

The Barry Jones 10km road race, from Wimbledon Park stadium (11am), is held for the 22nd time on Monday.

Hundreds of runners are expected to take part in the race, which starts just outside the track and finishes at the end of the 100 metres straight.

Anyone wanting to run in the event, which incorporates the London Borough of Merton Individual Championships, should turn up on the day.
