Councillors have given the thumbs down to the appearance of buildings to be erected on land adjoining the Savacentre at Merton Abbey Mills.
Outline permission has been granted to developers Countryside Properties for a hotel, health and fitness centre, restaurants, flats and car park. But the design and appearance of the buildings still need approval as part of the Section 106 conditions attached to the permission for the development. Councillors at a meeting of the planning committee before Easter were so unimpressed with the colours chosen and the roofing materials they told the developers to have a re-think.
The committee members withheld consent but agreed it could be given by planning officers, under delegated powers, on condition the matters were resolved.
