While we residents who live behind the proposed development realise the Streatham Hub needs to be rejuvenated, it should not be done to the detriment of ordinary people.

We have voiced our views to Ken Livingstone in no uncertain terms and feel he made the right decision in halting the proposed development.

To build such a huge development in this area with no provision for car parking is ridiculous. The proposal includes building 250 flats, a superstore, ice rink and a swimming pool with seating for 1,000 spectators.

We will have cars overflowing on to our tiny and overloaded streets, where parking is already a huge problem.

Lambeth Council's solution to this is CPZ, at a cost to us of around £70 per year.

This means more expense for us for something we don't want.

We have real concerns about the proposal.

l The height of the buildings is incredibly high. The plans show a six-storey block of flats on top of Tesco, which is nearly three stories above the steeple of the neighbouring church. This will overshadow houses in Ellora and the top of Hambro Roads, blocking daylight and morning sunlight to these houses.

l The leisure centre building is also very high, and will affect those living in Ellora and Natal Roads, blocking daylight.

l The loading bay is sited on the north side of the development, right behind homes in Ellora and Hambro Roads. There will be constant noise, flood lighting and pollution.

Deliveries will be from 7am to 11pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm on Sundays. This is going to cause terrible disturbance.

l Tesco will supply approximately 530 parking spaces for 250 flats, a superstore, an ice rink and a swimming pool with seating for 1,000 spectators.

This is not enough. Cars will spill onto our already overloaded streets.

l The houses in Ellora Road already have a very high wall at the end of their tiny gardens. It has been passed on the plans that the wall will be heightened again, surpassing the height of the upstairs windows, maybe their roofs.

This will be extremely dark and oppressive, and along the now existing wall will be a road carrying traffic of the new residents and deliveries of chlorine to the pool.

The consequences don't bear thinking about, with noise, high levels of pollution etc and such a dangerous chemical being delivered so close to homes.

We do not need another supermarket. A lot of us regret moving to this area with this hanging over our heads.
