Whatever the headlines and the contents of the letter in the Streatham Guardian by Councillor John Whelan, some of us were not born yesterday.

What he highlights I will accept as true, but we recall such improvements and radical changes, accountability and more, being promised year in, year out.

That is the crux of the matter with the basic problems of our goodwill and credulity being tested to beyond normal limits by promises repeated manifold. It's not those we feel we have a right to expect, but it's the promised results we ask to feel and see.

Councillor Whelan is only the new boy around. We are the ones who have heard so much of it before, meaning that Carlos Cortiglia's letter hits the nail on the head. Coun Whelan's hard hitting I wouldn't call a knockout.
