Barnet Council is planning to erect 16 sponsored Welcome to London Borough of Barnet' signs on the borough boundaries, featuring logos of advertising companies.
The light blue signs, with black lettering, will feature the borough crest and the phrase, Putting the Community First'. Directly beneath the signs will be a smaller sign saying Home of', followed by the name of the company sponsoring the sign.
The council has entered into a contract with Immediate Solutions, authorising it to sell sponsorship space on the boundary signs, which would mean the signs will not cost the council a penny.
The council is also planning a new series of sponsored town centre signs featuring a new symbol for each town centre. These include a picture of a mill on a hill for Mill Hill, and a harp for West Hendon, and two V-shaped trees making the letter W' for Whetstone.
