A MAN was charged with arson after he hid a lighter in his anus and later set fire to a pillow in his cell at Watford Police Station.
The bedding in the cell at Watford Police Station was burned on Wednesday, January 22, by the man who had been arrested for spitting at a police officer.
The arson charge was reduced to criminal damage to which William McIvor, 25, of Alexandra Road, Hemel Hempstead, pleaded guilty.
On Monday Miss Ptohopoulos, defending, said: "His intention was not to set fire to anything. His idea was simply to burn a hole in the pillow so he could conceal the lighter to light his cigarettes."
McIvor was remanded in custody to answer other matters being dealt with by the crown court.
