NORTHWOOD moved ever closer to the Ryman Division One North Championship on Saturday with a 6-0 thrashing of Aveley Town.
Chris Moore grabbed five of the goals to take his tally for the season to 27 in all competitions.
Hornchurch managed to win 3-2 at Marlow on Tuesday to keep the title race alive, but Woods' superior goal difference means they need only a point from their final game at Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday.
But it took 38 minutes for Woods to break the deadlock on Saturday when Moore headed home Danny Butler's cross.
Dave Sargant extended the hosts' lead with a penalty four minutes into the second-half, after Danny Yeoman had been fouled in the box.
On 55 minutes Arlesey's Craig Reynolds was dismissed and Moore took centre stage as Northwood ran riot.
He struck four times in the space of ten minutes. He is now on the same mark as Scott Fitzgerald, who has since departed to first division Watford.
Meanwhile the U12s won Northwood their first Middlesex County Youth Cup on Saturday when they came from behind to beat Watling Boys Club 2-1 with goals from George Daly and Gareth Thomas.
