RUISLIP golfer Neil Wichelow qualified for the final of the Glenmuir British Club Professional Championship with a one-under-par 69 at Crews Hill, Enfield.

Wichelow, who is the host professional at Crews Hill, used his local knowledge to earn a tie for sixth place in the PGA East region Qualifying Round, and a place at the final at St Andrews Bay in mid-August.

The 40-year-old is one of 17 players from the East Region to qualify and now heads to the course designed by Europe's victorious Ryder Cup captain, Sam Torrance.

The winner of the 72-hole final will pick up £10,000 and an automatic place in the Great Britain and Ireland team to meet the United States in the 2005 PGA Cup the club professionals version of the Ryder Cup.

Wichelow said: "Certainly there's an advantage playing your own course, but the other side of it is you're very conscious of where the trouble is. I dropped three shots, but fortunately I managed four birdies."
