A diamond ring which belonged to Marilyn Monroe and was stolen from a London gallery, has been offered for sale, according to a caller to the BBC's Crimewatch.

The gold encrusted diamond ring features an M motif and was given to the star by her second husband Joe DiMaggio. It was stolen along last month, along with a gold bangle also once owned by Monroe. The jewellery was stolen was show at an exhibition at County Hall. Both items are worth up to £250,000.

Police received several calls after the jewellery theft featured on Crimewatch last night.

A man seen on CCTV leaving the exhibition was identified by a Crimewatch viewer after police said they wanted to speak to him in relation to the theft.

Another caller told police that someone had tried to sell him the ring.

Detective Inspector Tim Forber of the Metropolitan Police said two other people had contacted police with information about the ring being up for sale.

The jewellery was due to go under the hammer in September.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the missing jewels, but police are still looking for a second man in relation to the theft.
