SINDO self-defence classes have proved so popular with youngsters an Oxhey couple have set up a mini-kids class for five to six year olds.

The Sindo methodology channels energy into one part of the body through controlled breathing, allowing the person to hit hard objects without injury.

Although the mini-kids class won't be taught the breathing techniques at the lessons, in the Moreton Hall, Eastbury Road, Oxhey, they will benefit from the confidence which comes from learning a martial art said Mrs Karen Thaibsyah, 38, who runs the classes with husband Jimmy.

Their three children are all trained in the martial art which originates from Indonesia.

Karina, 13, is a brown belt, and ten-year-old twins Michael and Sonia are blue belts.

The couple moved to Oxhey 12 years ago after first meeting when Mr Thaibsyah, who is from Indonesia, was teaching at Essex University.

They have set up classes in Watford, Bushey and Oxhey which are aimed at anyone, but they are particularly keen to encourage children under six to join the new class in Oxhey on Thursday's between 5.45pm and 6.30pm.

Mrs Thaibsyah said: "We are teaching the idea of self defence with the emphasis of fitness for fun.

"It teaches them about self-discipline and control and increases self-confidence and will improve the general health of the children."

The cost is £3 a session for the mini-kids.
