A CALL of soppy tart' led to a councillor being thrown out of a council meeting by security guards.

However, Labour's Cray Valley West ward councillor Colin Willetts is unrepentant and says he is looking forward to round two' at the next full council meeting.

He was marched out of the council chamber by security staff from the Bromley Council meeting on January 24 after a confrontation with environment portfolio holder Councillor George Taylor.

The furore was sparked by a discussion over the number of questions a member can ask.

The leading Tory group voted to restrict the number to three written and three oral questions each meeting, because the number currently being asked was, according to a report, "inhibiting the efficient running of the council".

But the suggestion angered Cllr Willetts, who had submitted 67 questions for that meeting and had asked 175 questions at the previous five.

A heated exchange followed in which Cllr Willetts called on Cllr Taylor to resign, claiming the Crays were getting a raw deal from the council.

When another member, thought to be Councillor Carole Hubbard, tried to intervene, Cllr Willetts called her a "soppy tart".

At that point the mayor, Councillor Ann Manning, stepped in and, after a vote, Cllr Willetts was ejected.

After the meeting Cllr Willetts said: "I steamed into bully boy' Taylor and will continue to do so until the level of services in Cray Valley West are comparable with those in Chislehurst, Petts Wood and Bromley town centre.

"I look forward to round two at the next full council meeting."

However, Cllr Taylor dismissed suggestions the Crays were being neglected.

He said: "Greater resources are being put into the Crays and Anerley than anywhere else in the borough because the problems there are greater."

Responding to the "bully boy" allegation, he said: "I will remain dignified in the face of an attack from a complete joke of a councillor."

Lib Dem leader Councillor Chris Maines, a bemused spectator, said: "It's the residents of the Crays who lose out by Cllr Willetts just being rude to people.

"All councillors are now suffering because of one naughty boy at the back who will misbehave."
