A CHARITY is hoping to preserve a slice of sporting history by getting it recognised as a listed building.
The Twentieth Century Society wants the Tote board building at Catford Greyhound Stadium, Adenmore Road, to be granted listed status.
Greyhounds stopped running at the 73-year-old venue in November 2003, when the site was bought by a housing developer.
Now, chairman of the British Greyhound Racing Board Lord Lipsey, is leading the campaign to preserve the Tote building.
He said: "I loved the stadium at Catford and it was a very sad day for me when it closed.
"It would be really super if this piece of sporting history can be saved forever."
The Twentieth Century Society was formed in 1979 and aims to create a greater understanding of architecture from the last century.
