HUNDREDS of bottles of booze have been confiscated by police in the first weeks of the alcohol ban in Bexleyheath.
Last October, Bexleyheath Broadway from the Marriott Hotel to The Drayman was declared an alcohol-control zone making it illegal to drink in the street or have an open container of booze.
Anyone caught faces an instant fine of £500 if they refuse to stop drinking or are a persistent offender. They could also be arrested and police will confiscate their drinks.
Altogether police confiscated 360 cans and 130 bottles of beer, nine bottle of wine, 40 bottles of spirits and 28 bottles of alcopops.
Support for the ban is overwhelming among businesses, licensees and residents.
Chief Inspector Gary Fryer says his officers and Police Community Support Officers will continue to enforce the zone.
