ORPINGTON & DISTRICT CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

Following on from their recent Hogmanay at Petts Wood Memorial Hall, the Society celebrated the birthday of Scotland's greatest poet and song-writer, Robert Burns, with a traditional "Burns Supper". This event, held on Friday 21st January, at The Warren, Hayes, attracted a capacity turnout of members and friends, who enjoyed Ron Patterson's exuberant address to the Haggis, before settling down to Dinner.

President Angela Campbell introduced Mike Gould, who offered interesting reflections on little known facts regarding the life of Rabbie Burns. David Cullens proposed the toast to "the Lassies" to which Valerie Cutcher replied.

Scottish dancing, to the music of Robin Ellis followed the interval and continued past midnight, to the delight of all those present.

The President brought the evening to a close by thanking all those who had worked so hard to ensure the evening's success, in particular Sheila Brown, who convened the dance, Piper Hugh Mackay and Nick and Betty Matthews who provided vocal items throughout the evening.
