BEXLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
It was nice to get together again at our January meeting after the long Christmas break. We were pleased to welcome Mrs Maggie Stredder for a return visit, this time talking about Morecambe and Wise.
Maggie was originally a singer with the Vernon Girls and then joined the group The Ladybirds, who performed on many well-known TV shows including the Morecambe and Wise show.
She was able to tell us of their early life and their first meeting when Ernie was 13 years old an already making a name for himself. They both worked hard but success was rather slow in coming, however, the Morecambe and Wise Show made them household names. Sadly Eric died at the early age of 58 leaving Ernie at a loss without his long-time partner.
Sylvia Linton gave thanks for an extremely interesting afternoon.
Our next meeting is on February 22 and will have a talk entitled "The Life of a Lady Cruise Director" by Mrs Judie Abbot.
