BROMLEY & BECKENHAM PHILATELIC SOCIETY

Our president, Mr Alan Stenning, has dominated our proceedings in January, firstly on January 12 with a full evening's display of the stamps of India and the other countries around the Indian Ocean using the Rupee currency, as well as Ceylon and Pakistan, and also Indian Post Offices in the Gulf area.

On January 26, he judged the entries for the President's Cup, when Mr J Burtonshaw was declared the winner with a display of the 1957 World Scout Jamboree issues.

The runner-up was Mr D Hubbard with Labuan stamps overprinted for use in the Straits Settlements during 1906-9.

The president of the Kent Federation of Philatelic Societies will be putting on his Presidential Display at our next meeting on February 16. He will be followed just a week later by a return visit from a former president of the Kent Federation, Tony Bosworth, who will be talking about and displaying stamps and postal history of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

The society meets in the Public Hall, Bromley Road, Beckenham at 7.30pm for 8pm. Visitors, guests and new members are always welcome. Full details may be obtained from the secretary, David Rennie on 020 8778 7001 or the membership secretary, Chris Sands on 020 8402 1263.
