THE action was fast and furious as table tennis players battled it out in a hard-fought tournament.

The venue was the VCD Sports Club in Old Road, Crayford, and the players were from the club, Bexley Table Tennis Group and clients of centres for people with learning disabilities from Bexley, Bromley and Lewisham.

The VCD club provided coaches for an intensive morning of practice, before a singles and doubles tournament in the afternoon.

The centres taking part were Carlton Resource Centre, Carlton Road, Sidcup; Smerdon Resource Centre, Lumley Close, Belvedere; Leemore Centre, Clarington Road, Lewisham, Astley Centre, Magpie Hall Lane, Bromley and Leesons Centre, Chipperfield Road, St Paul's Cray.

The Carlton centre was the overall winner of the day, with Kevin Kerslake from the Astley Centre the men's winner and Jenny Shurety from the Leesons Centre, the women's winner.

The event was sponsored by Bribar, a table tennis equipment company, which also provided the prizes.
