A CHURCH has opened its first house for the homeless.
At any one time, the property, in Catford, will accommodate four homeless people who are expected to stay for around two years, while they gain the necessary skills for independent living.
King's Church, Catford Hill, Catford, bought the house as part of its Jericho Road Project to help eliminate rough sleeping in the borough.
And it plans to open another four-bedroom house next year, followed by a hostel for 12 people.
Simon Allen, manager of the Jericho Road Project, said: "We provide ongoing support for all our residents in order to help them gain independence.
"We are working in conjunction with Lewisham Council and other housing organisations to achieve this goal."
