A MAN accused of a double shooting has spoken of his "shock" at having his sports car stolen.

Paul Asbury, aged 22, from Thamesmead, is alleged to have been behind the Bexleyheath shooting in March last year.

The prosecution at his Old Bailey trial, claims it was in revenge for the carjacking of his Audi TT car a week earlier.

Sabina Rizvi, aged 25, from Mitchum, Surrey, died in the shooting which took place in the early hours of March 20 in Watling Street.

Despite being shot in the head, drug dealer Mark Williams of Waterhead Close, Erith, survived. He is alleged to have stolen the Audi at knifepoint.

Asbury told the court he had paid £20,000 for the car which he was financing from the sale of a £70,000 property in Rochester.

He claimed he had been driving the car home from a Belvedere mechanic's garage when he was flagged down by two men in a Volkswagen Golf.

He said he did not recognise the men but saw a black man with a scar on his cheek in the back of the Golf. He added one of the men drove off in his car and the Golf followed.

He said: "I flagged down a car and I said the people had stolen my car and driven off, and would he give chase?"

He claimed they drove through the streets trying to find the Audi. "Obviously I was in a little bit of shock," he added. "I had never had a car stolen before. I suppose it was disbelief."

Eventually, he went into the Dartford nightclub Zen, borrowed a phone and called the police to report the theft.

Asbury has denied having dealings with Williams or being involved with drugs. He says he regularly bought and sold cars through Autotrader.

Asbury denies murdering Miss Rizvi and the attempted murder of Williams. The trial continues.
