LEWISHAM residents have been reminded of the role they can play in local politics.
Liberal Democrat councillor Matthew Huntbach is encouraging people to put themselves forward as candidates for council elections in May.
He believes there is an aura of exclusivity associated with local authorities which needs to be changed, and is calling on Lewisham Council to lead the way.
"We need to remind local people that this is their council, not a closed shop open only to established politicians.
"I am calling for a campaign to encourage people to get more involved and to let them have more information about possible opportunities."
For more information on how to apply to be a candidate, call Lewisham Council on 0208 314 6000.
