SPORTING fans are being urged to sign up to register their interest in Olympic tickets.

By signing up to www.tickets.london2012.com, people will be able to say which sports they are interested in and receive updates on major sporting events, test events and London 2012 developments.

They will also be among the first to find out when tickets go on sale in 2011 and how to apply for them.

In an announcement about ticketing, the London organising committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) confirmed more tickets will be on sale than originally stated.

There will now be 8m tickets for the Olympic Games rather than 7.7m and an increase of half a million tickets from 1.5m to 2m for the Paralympic Games.

Three quarters of the tickets will be available to the public via a ballot.

Tickets will go on sale next year and information about pricing is expected later this year.

Olympics in Greenwich

LOCOG’s announcement comes just over a month after Greenwich Council gave the go ahead for two Olympics facilities in the borough.

Woolwich’s Royal Artillery Barracks will be used to host the 2012 shooting events and there will also be temporary structures built at The O2.

The venue, called North Greenwich Arena, will host rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, basketball and wheelchair basketball events in 2012.

It will be in use until September 30 2012 and is expected to be removed by the end of that year.
