A GRANDMOTHER’S face was left bloody and scarred following a violent doorstep dog attack.

Margaret White was visiting a sick friend in Woodside Avenue, Chislehurst, when a Staffordshire bull terrier rushed out of the property and mauled her face and neck.

The 90-year-old was left needing 100 stitches and may lose the sight in her eye.

Speaking from hospital, she said: “It was terrifying.

“If the dog got any further down my neck I would have been finished.”

Bromley police confirmed they were called to the address by the London Ambulance Service at around 4.15pm on February 19.

Ms White, of Mottingham Lane, Mottingham, was taken to Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, where she has spent this week recovering from severe facial wounds.

Police have confirmed the dog involved in the incident is not an illegal breed and has not been seized.

However, it is understood arrangements have been made for the dog to be destroyed.

No-one had been arrested and Ms White’s granddaughter Suzanne Page has started a petition calling on the government to change the Dangerous Dogs Act so attacks on private property can still lead to a police prosecution.

Miss Page, 25, who lives in Damon Close, Sidcup, said: “Margaret is the most kind and generous person we know.

“Her face is permanently disfigured and it nearly killed her.”

She added: “I didn’t know what to do or where to go after the attack. The Dangerous Dogs Act needs to be changed.”

The Dangerous Dogs Act currently only applies to dangerously out-of-control animals in a public place.
