IN A bid to boost Bexley’s recycling, a campaign has been launched to get people to wrap their food scraps and recycle them.

People are still putting food waste in their general rubbish bin, which means it will go to a landfill site, instead of putting it in the brown garden waste bin, where it will be composted.

Councillor Gareth Bacon, cabinet member for the environment said: “Our residents are fantastic at recycling their cans, plastics, glass and paper.

“What we need to do now is make sure all our food waste is properly disposed of.”

This month Recycler the Robot is visiting schools to get the message to children who, in turn, will encourage their parents and grandparents.

Each household should have a kitchen caddy, which sits on a worktop to dispose of food scraps.

Lining the caddy with newspaper or caddy bag will mean it is easy to wrap when transferred to the bin and should stop any smell.

Caddy bags are available from all the borough’s libraries.

If you do not have a caddy or want more information call 020 8303 7777 option one, or visit bexley.gov.uk/recycling
